When you happen to be travelling the rolling hills at the feet of La Majelletta and find yourself between Serramonacesca and Manoppello you must, we truly mean must visit this exceptional Agriturismo. Al Regio Tratturo specialises in traditional regional cuisine and is a strong promoter of the arts and handy crafts of the “contadini”. They even host a threshing festival in mid July which lasts a whole weekend. So be sure to call in advance to find out when exactly it will be taking place if you happen to be in the area.

Run by Massimo Aceto, a young man in his late twenties, you truly get the feeling that the new generation is at work here. Patrons are greeted at the door by a friendly waiter (or the owner and chef himself) and seated promptly. Quality and service do not come short at all and the chef will make you re-think whether or not your mother is the “best cook in the world”. After my lunch of mixed antipasti, fettuccine with mushrooms and grilled lamb including a half litre of red house wine, desert and espresso… all for only € 15,00 may I add, I was definitely in no need of dinner that evening. And since I was driving, was only able to enjoy a single glass of the deep red house wine “lu furmentate”, typical for the region. The price for a 3 course meal (incl. wine, coffee and desert) differs a touch in the evening and ranges from € 20,00 - € 25,00 depending on what’s listed on the menu.

The restaurant was completely restructured in 2004 with the utmost attention to detail and a level of quality that only a true artisan can accomplish. Most establishments like to keep their patrons busy with a television while they wait to be served but the Regio Tratturo offers more than enough detail in the architecture and decoration to keep you occupied until your meal arrives.

The seating room is long and narrow but doesn’t have the feel of a hall to it at all. There is plenty of natural light which enters through the large windows and doors and be sure to ask for patio seating on a nice day during the Spring and Summer months as the natural surroundings are simply breathtaking if vineyards, olive and cherry trees as well as soft rolling hills happens to be to your taste.

Not only does Al Regio Tratturo offer fine authentic food but also a number of quaint rooms if you happen to be looking for a place to stay while in the region. All 5 rooms are pleasantly decorated and for € 50,00 per room/night (for 2 people) you also receive breakfast in the morning.
